Make it Youself All Natural Bug Repellent for the Whole Family :-)

Summer is here! And I love the heat! But I am such a mosquito magnet!

Bug repellent containing DEET is harmful for heath, especially for the children.

I came up with this all natural bug repellent using essential oils and skin nourishing Avocado oil. And I don’t get bug bites anymore. And yes, it is THAT effective. And it has this light and citrusy aroma.

I have used this blend on my kids since they were 4. And here in Virginia, it is hot and humid and that means lots of, and I mean lots of mosquitoes and bugs that bite. They never get any bug bites unless I forget to apply. And it does happen!

The recipe is very simple. I also carry it in my ETSY shop here if you rather have it made for you 🙂

1 oz carrier oil ( I use Avocado oil. You can use olive oil, Almond oil, Hazel nut oil, Apricot Kernel oil, Aloe Vera gel or any oil you have)

4 drops Thyme (if you are using it for children, use chemotype: linalool which is gentler)

4 drops Lemongrass

4 drops Lavender

4 drops Peppermint

4 drops Patchouli

2 drops Opopanax

And there you have it – a highly effective all natural bug repellent for the whole family.

I personally like to use carrier oils because they are skin nourishing. Even in the summer time, skin can and does get dry from playing in the pool and the damaging UVA & UVB. Once you or your children get home, just rinse and towel dry. Skin remains soft! There is no need to apply moisturizers.

Avocado oil and Patchouli are skin nourishing, Lemongrass and Patchouli are highly if not most effective insect repellents, peppermint cools the skin, Thyme ct linalol is gentle on the skin and inhibits the spread of microbes and Lavender has the anti-inflammatory and skin-healing properties.

It does not stain. Always do a skin test to avoid any irritation. Essential oils are wonderful. However, they can cause irritation for some individuals even they are properly diluted.
